Sand Point park - West pond

Titusville, FL

This pond is one of the inter-connected ponds at Sand Point Park that was impacted by a wastewater spill in late 2020.  After months of remediation by the city, we installed 5,300 square feet (492.57 square meters) of floating treatment wetlands, equal to 10 % of the surface area of the west pond.  The plant growth on the Beemats floating islands has been prolific during the eight months of deployment.  The uptake rates of nitrogen and phosphorus have been relatively high, reducing an initial population of floating duckweed in the pond by more than 50 %.
