DEER CREEK

The City of Jacksonville received a grant from the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection in 2011 to study the use of floating treatment wetlands in the Upper Deer Creek storm water treatment area. The study was scheduled to last six months, but was interrupted by expansion construction after five months. Water monitoring was inconclusive due to undocumented seepage inputs with unknown nutrient concentrations.  Although the study was shortened, the biomass analysis showed very high uptake rates for nitrogen and higher than average rates for phosphorus.
